Laser cooling for quantum gases

Laser cooling exploits the physics of light scattering to cool atomic and molecular gases close absolute zero. It is crucial initial step for essentially all gas experiments in which Bose-Einstein condensation and, more generally, quantum degeneracy reached. The ongoing development laser-cooling methods has allowed elements be brought degeneracy, with each additional species offering its own experimental opportunities. Improved are opening new avenues, example, reaching purely through laser as well realization continuous condensation. Here we review these recent innovations provide an outlook on that may enable ways creating gases.
